What We Do
We provide U.S. wool growers fast, accurate yield and micron test results so they can genetically manage their flock and sell their wool commercially.
Tests Offered
Wool Yield Testing
Cost: $120 per sample
Purpose: The value of greasy wool is significantly determined by its Wool Base Yield. The Wool Base percentage of a Lot (multiple baes of wool) (scoured wool minus the grease, wax, dirt, and plant material) is the product manufacturers are interested in for purchase. Wool Yield Testing provides the data needed to set pricing.
Details: Wool Yield testing includes Scouring, Drying, Ash Determination, Alcohol Extractable Matter Determination (grease), Vegetable Matter Determination and Fiber Diameter Micron Testing. All testing is performed on new, custom built, state of the art equipment and secure data is provided to our customer through a user friendly report.
OFDA Genetic Testing
Cost: $4 per sample
Purpose: To provide data for ranchers to breed their animals for higher quality wool.
Details: Samples provided will be tested on a state of the art Optical Fiber Diameter machine. Results will be provided in microns and upon request include a histogram of variation.
Scoured Yield Testing
Cost: $20 per sample
Purpose: For those that don’t need a full Wool Yield Test, but want a Fiber Diameter test. We scour and dry the wool to remove the bulk of the grease before testing to provide a wool base estimate on a smaller sample of wool.
Details: Samples provided will be scoured and dried and then tested on a state of the art Optical Fiber Diameter machine. Results will be provided in microns and upon request include a histogram of variation.
